So, like I was saying slower doesn’t mean behind, it simply means to slow down. I’m saying this because I went to my doctors appointment a couple of weeks ago and my doctor was very concerned about my foot still being swollen. She asked me what type of activities was I doing and I said nothing much. You have to think about when you’re on the go, you never realize how much you’re doing even if you don’t think you’re doing a lot. I was still going to work. I was still picking up child from practice. I was still going to the grocery. So that meant I was still moving around still being somewhat active, but still kind of sedentary. Nonetheless, it was too much moving for her and she was very concerned As she’s examining my ankle every time she would touch right underneath the (Peroneal tendons area) because it was very sensitive to the touch. She and the NP (yes two people in the room to examine me) asked to see my phone so they could check how much I was walking and it was quite a lot y’all. I didn’t realize it. She asked me did I wear my boot all day and of course, the look on my face gave it away, helll no. My foot so swollen and they couldn’t quite see what was on the x-ray cause you know an x-ray is black-and-white. They said if I come back and it was still sensitive and swollen that they will have to do an MRI. Ummm a what, excuse me, but no and she said ummm but yes. She proceeds to chew me out because my body can heal if I allow it to rest. I don’t know about y’all but when I heard the word MRI, I was freaked out like what’s really happening here. She suggested that I get a scooter. I looked on Amazon and purchased the scooter. It was a reasonable purchase. I went back to work and everybody was like hallelujah, “You finally got something I can help you stay off that foot”. I’m thought to myself I must really have a hard time staying still. However, that particular week we had to travel to multiple buildings and a scooter unbeknownst to me was too high and it made it worse. I was putting more work on my opposite leg and still not getting any relief. So the guys at work, themaintenance staff, saw my struggle, and asked me if I wanted a rolling scooter. I said, “the one you could sit down on fully? And they replied, yes and I said “we have that here?, and he said “yeah and I said of course, let me have it”. At first, I was embarrassed to ride on it because I felt like it’s not that serious. However, I should have known better because when I went home one evening, my foot was still swollen so bad. I said you know what, they offered this scooter to me and I am going to use it, because at this point, I need to get this ankle healed. I need to get back to living and doing what I do naturally. The foot was holding be back and don’t like that. So I’m going to take the time to ice my foot, take some ibuprofen, heat my foot take some ibuprofen, and stay off of this foot. Luckily, we have fall break and I don’t have to go anywhere and I won’t go anywhere. Simply because I need this foot healed expeditiously. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks and I really don’t want to get an MRI. If you’ve ever experienced getting one let me know what it was like because it just seems like it’s going to be something uncomfortable and I’m not prepared for it. I hope my journey helps you understand that things may happen, but you also have to listen to your body and heal. You have to do what you have to do to heal when things happen. It’s OK to slow down. It’s OK to take a break. It’s OK to not have all the things in order at this particular time, but what’s not OK is giving up. Or allowing your body to be complacent. I refuse to give up. I will rest this foot. I want to make sure I’m doing everything in my power to heal and that is with all facets of life. This story may be about an ankle, but it also is about life l, continuing the journey, even if you have to pause for a moment. HEAL to get yourself back on the upside of life.
