Holidays how are you spending this year?

We are a semi big family when you get all sides in one place. When I was kid our gatherings use to be at my (ma’mee) house. She would cook everyone’s favorite dish where everyone felt special. There would be music playing and drinks drinking. It was safe, warm and inviting. Where did that feeling go once she departed, well right on over to her favorite (yeah I said it) granddaughter’s house. So why did I take over something I didn’t ask for …let’s get into it!!!!

It wasn’t because I have the largest house or cook all the sides. What I do have is treating family like royalty when you enter my home. Here you will feel safe. It’s warm and inviting and makes you want to stay way past the pineapple being placed on the counter. I love it because I love seeing my family happy, but it comes with you being the last to go to bed and the first one to wake up. However, it’s worth it because you get your family in one place and have people excited to hear what’s on the menu.

One thing we love to do is play games whether the kids are putting on a talent show or board games the competition it is fierce. Surprisingly, this family doesn’t play spades in our home. I know I know don’t take our black cards. We have the cards just in case someone brings a few people that plays. So, what are some great family traditions in your home.

Some favorites and some new things you can incorporate in your holiday traditions and activities

  • Baking: Making and eating holiday choo-choo’s brownies is a popular and festive tradition, especially with pound cake, sweet potato pies , and peppermint bark.
  • Decorating: Decorating the Christmas tree, building a gingerbread house, and looking at holiday lights are common activities.
  • Gift-giving: Exchanging gifts is a central part of many holiday celebrations, including specific events like a “favorite things” party. We will pull names this year.
  • Festive fun: Other popular activities include wearing festive color schemes, making egg nog, singing carols, and taking pictures of course.
  • Relaxing activities: Some people enjoy a more relaxed holiday, such as reading a book, painting, or spending a quiet day at the beach.
