It also means decluttering your life and that is a process that is not—and should not be—completed in a single day, month or year. It is more of:
A gradual approach that is more sustainable and less overwhelming, allowing you to build new habits and reflect on your relationship with your possessions and in life.
Here is why a slow approach is more effective, along with strategies to implement it.
The benefits of slow and steady decluttering
- Avoids overwhelm and burnout.Tackling your entire life at once can be mentally and emotionally draining, leading to “decision fatigue” that causes you to quit before you finish. Working in small, manageable sessions, like 15 or 30 minutes a day, makes the project feel less intimidating. My main issue is throwing out clothes that I can no longer fit. My mind says yeah girl “you’re gonna lose that weight and get back to who you were”, but you’re no longer “that girl” in the sense. You’ve evolved and growing into a person that has new ideas and experiences,so do the clothes really matter or match the current mindset? Letting go of “many things we have in our lives that don’t serve us” is super hard, but allowing space for new things will help you grow and improve yourself. The past was good, but why not be better!!!
- Encourages lasting habit change.Decluttering isn’t just about cleaning up; it’s about shifting your mindset and consumption habits. A slow pace gives you the time to reflect on why you have clutter and what you can do to prevent it from returning.
- Reduces stress and guilt. Rushing through the process can lead you to throw out items you later regret. A slower pace allows you to be more intentional with your decisions and avoid the guilt that can come with getting rid of sentimental items.
- Builds momentum with small wins.Completing a small area, like a single drawer or countertop, gives you a sense of accomplishment and visible proof of your progress. These small wins provide motivation to continue to the next task.
- As always “Never…….what mmmmmhhhmmmm in U
